An overview

The perfect solution for tooth loss, dental implants act like artificial tooth roots that provide a solid, strong foundation for permanent (fixed) or removable replacement teeth. Pre-implant procedure.

Once the implant has fused with the jaw bone during a period of osseointegration, porcelain crowns can they be attached to the implant, which looks completely natural and is custom-made to match natural, existing teeth.

A very successful treatment, dental implants have a success rate between 90 and 95%. However, here at Calm & Gentle, we have an implantation success rate of 98%.

Types of dental implant treatments:

Who’s suitable?

Many patients who are healthy enough are able to undergo implant surgery.

Non-suitable candidates include those who do not have a sufficient amount of bone for the implant to secure to, in these cases, additional procedures like bone grafts and bone regeneration will be required prior to implantation.

On top of this, patients should have healthy gums and bone and need to be on top of their oral hygiene routine and committed to making regular dental visits.

Smokers will need to be evaluated on an individual basis. Guide to dental implants.

Consequences of not ignoring a missing tooth

Often many people think that tooth loss, especially when just one tooth is missing, will not cause any damage.

However, once a patient loses a tooth, it adds extra pressure to remaining teeth, which can then cause other teeth over-erupt or breakdown.

Gum infections and gum disease can arise, which if allowed to develop into more serious conditions like periodontal disease means the patient may experience further tooth and bone loss.

If you are missing a single tooth, replacing it with a single dental implant Implants can be a very straightforward procedure.

The procedure

before and afterOnce the dental implant it has been placed, a ceramic crown will be placed over it to give the impression of a natural tooth, the shade is selected based on your remaining teeth.

We will, in most cases use our CEREC milling machine for these crowns which can be made in 1 hour, no waiting for two weeks for your impressions to be sent to the laboratory.

The actual implants are small, titanium pegs that are placed in the jawbone. They replace what would have been the root of your natural tooth.

Once the implant has been placed and a healing period successfully completed, your replacement tooth will be cemented on permanently.

The titanium pegs are very strong, which means that the implants are fixed firmly into the jaw and will integrate into your body’s own tissues, just like the teeth they are replacing. See the costs of implants.

Missing teeth

If you are missing a single tooth, replacing it with a single dental implant Implants can be a very straight -forward procedure with little downtime.

Often people think that a single missing tooth will not cause any further damage, however, once we lose a tooth, it can be extra pressure on our remaining teeth and cause the tooth below or above to over-erupt, giving the impressions, we are long in the tooth!

Once the dental implant it has been placed, a ceramic crown will be placed over it to give the impression of a natural tooth, the shade is selected based on your remaining teeth.

Stages of a Single Dental Implant

Implants themselves are small, titanium cylinders that are placed in the jawbone, which act as a replacement tooth root and subsequently become a base for a dental crown, fixed bridge, or denture, i.e. your replacement teeth.

Because the implants are made from titanium, they are extremely strong, which means that the implants are firmly fixed and integrated into your body’s own tissues, just like the teeth they are replacing. Present studies show that once successfully integrated and maintained well, it can last a lifetime.

Implants can also be used very successfully when a patient is missing more than one tooth and or has larger gaps.

In fact, they can also be used when all of the natural teeth have been lost. In most adults we have 32 teeth if we count our wisdom teeth when replacing natural teeth with multiple dental implants, it is not necessary to use a dental implant for each tooth that has been lost.

Your implantologist will assess your mouth and diagnose how many implants will be necessary. In most cases, if a patient has no teeth and looking for dental implants and a fixed bridge as a solution they may need four dental implants in the upper jaw and four in the lower, this is commonly known as ‘All on 4’.

All on 4 is a fantastic option for a patient that is wearing a full, full denture and wants their life back.

When a patient is missing three or four teeth in one area, they may only need two implants to secure their permanent option.

Arranging a free consultation is always encouraged, it will give you the opportunity to see if you are suitable for it and what your options are.

It may be that you have made enquiries in the past and told you are not an ideal candidate; if that is the case, please do not be put off, treatments have advanced so much in the past few years, this may no longer be the case.

Accelerated Healing PRGF

What is PRGF you ask…PRGF is the latest, revolutionary techniques being used by only a hand-full if implantologist in the UK.

Plasma | Rich | Growth | Factors

‘It is based on the formulation and use of the patient's own proteins with biological activity, growth factors for the stimulation and acceleration of tissue healing and regeneration.’

To you and me, that means, using your own blood sample, the plasma is separated from the platelets using a special osculating machine. Once the plasma is separated we can use it to accelerated healing around the newly placed implant.

Studies show that over 99.9% of procedures carried out using this method are successful. It also requires less downtime, bruising and swelling.

It is 100% natural only using the bodies own healing products to accelerate the healing process.
