Are you experiencing tooth loss? Does it bring you down and make you feel self-conscious?
You are not alone. There are roughly 27 million adults in the UK who have at least one missing tooth.
Amongst this number, further oral problems are reported and further tooth loss often happens as a result of ignoring gaps in the mouth.
Here at The Calm & Gentle Dental, we specialise in restorative dentistry and treat hundreds of patients every year suffering from tooth loss and the problems that arise from this.
Do not let your oral health suffer any more – for our expert help, get in touch with our treatment coordinator on 01732 678408.
An overview
The perfect solution for tooth loss, dental implants act like artificial tooth roots that provide a solid, strong foundation for permanent (fixed) or removable replacement teeth. Pre-implant procedure.
Once the implant has fused with the jaw bone during a period of osseointegration, porcelain crowns can they be attached to the implant, which looks completely natural and is custom-made to match natural, existing teeth.
A very successful treatment, dental implants have a success rate between 90 and 95%. However, here at Calm & Gentle, we have an implantation success rate of 98%.
Types of dental implant treatments:
- Single Implants: To replace one missing tooth
- Multiple Implants: Replace many missing teeth in different areas
- All-on-Four / Teeth in a Day: Four implants are used to secure dentures in place
- Implant-Supported Bridges: A dental bridge supported by an implant rather than cement

Who’s suitable?
Many patients who are healthy enough are able to undergo implant surgery.
Non-suitable candidates include those who do not have a sufficient amount of bone for the implant to secure to, in these cases, additional procedures like bone grafts and bone regeneration will be required prior to implantation.
On top of this, patients should have healthy gums and bone and need to be on top of their oral hygiene routine and committed to making regular dental visits.
Smokers will need to be evaluated on an individual basis. Guide to dental implants.
Consequences of not ignoring a missing tooth
Often many people think that tooth loss, especially when just one tooth is missing, will not cause any damage.
However, once a patient loses a tooth, it adds extra pressure to remaining teeth, which can then cause other teeth over-erupt or breakdown.
Gum infections and gum disease can arise, which if allowed to develop into more serious conditions like periodontal disease means the patient may experience further tooth and bone loss.
If you are missing a single tooth, replacing it with a single dental implant Implants can be a very straightforward procedure.
The procedure
Once the dental implant it has been placed, a ceramic crown will be placed over it to give the impression of a natural tooth, the shade is selected based on your remaining teeth.
We will, in most cases use our CEREC milling machine for these crowns which can be made in 1 hour, no waiting for two weeks for your impressions to be sent to the laboratory.
The actual implants are small, titanium pegs that are placed in the jawbone. They replace what would have been the root of your natural tooth.
Once the implant has been placed and a healing period successfully completed, your replacement tooth will be cemented on permanently.
The titanium pegs are very strong, which means that the implants are fixed firmly into the jaw and will integrate into your body’s own tissues, just like the teeth they are replacing. See the costs of implants.
